2012 Coke Zero 400 TV Coverage – Network: TNT
Over the course of the last several events at Daytona International Speedway, there have been some screwy results. Just as at last year’s Daytona 500 when Trevor Bayne took the checkered flag, the night race at Daytona was won by David Ragan (Odds To Win 2012 Coke Zero 400: 50 to 1 @ 5Dimes Sportsbook). When you look at the NASCAR odds on Ragan for this race, even as a defending champion of the Coke Zero 400, you can tell what type of an upset it really was. No one figured to see the No. 34 anywhere near the front of the pack, but he was one of the top drivers on the day and stole what amounted to be his only race victory of the 2011 campaign. Still, for Ragan to repeat, it is going to take a heck of an effort, and we just don’t know if he is going to have it in him.
The man that is favored to win the Coke Zero 400 though, is Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (Coke Zero 400 Favorite Odds: 11 to 1 @ 5Dimes Sportsbook). Little E finally broke that dastardly losing streak a few weeks ago, and now, he is one of the men at the top of the Sprint Cup standings at the moment. It would be fitting for Earnhardt Jr. to come back to Daytona International Speedway and win where his father unfortunately passed all those years ago. Last year though, the No. 88 only finished in 19th position, which has become essentially the norm for him here at this track over the course of the last few years.
List Of Past Coke Zero 400 Winners (Since 2000)
2011 – David Ragan
2010 – Kevin Harvick
2009 – Tony Stewart
2008 – Kyle Busch
2007 – Jamie McMurray
2006 – Tony Stewart
2005 – Tony Stewart
2004 – Jeff Gordon
2003 – Greg Biffle
2002 – Michael Waltrip
2001 – Dale Earnhardt Jr.
2000 – Jeff Burton
When you look at the list of previous Coke Zero 400 winners, the one that really stands out is Tony Stewart (Odds To Win The Coke Zero 400: 12 to 1 @ JustBet Sportsbook). The defending Sprint Cup champion has three victories here in the night race at Daytona over the course of the last several years, and he is going to be a force to be reckoned with again this time around. The man they call “Smoke” has won a whopping five races just since the Chase for the Sprint Cup started last year, and it is going to be tough to stop him. Of course, what we have to remember about Stewart is that he has only won here at Daytona once since forming his own racing team, but those three victories in total at the night race still loom quite large.
Another man that has a history of running well here at Daytona is Matt Kenseth (Coke Zero 400 Lines: 12.75 to 1 @ 5Dimes Sportsbook). You don’t think of Kenseth as the type of driver that should be leading on the Sprint Cup standings, but he has been at or near the top all year long. He won the season opening Daytona 500, and if he were to pull this one off, he would be a rare winner of both the 500 and the 400 in the same season. How close was Kenseth to holding both titles at the same time already, though? He was the runner up to Ragan here last year at Daytona, and he led 14 of the 170 laps in this race.
